Your details, and what we do with them

This platform exists to connect people. That only works on trust — so here, in plain language, is exactly what we collect, why, and where it goes. No fine print hiding the important parts.

The short version

  • When you reach out through a form, your contact details go to the one organisation or person you chose to connect with — and no one else.
  • We never sell your information, we don't run ads, and we don't share it with third-party marketers.
  • The only thing published for everyone to see is what an organisation chooses to put on its own listing.
  • The pathway pages that help families are information only — they don't ask you to enter your name or ID.
  • You can ask us what we hold about you, to fix it, or to delete it — any time.

Who we are

NPO Hub is a programme of Astute Tech Foundation, a registered South African non-profit (NPO 279-893, PBO 930085805), based in Etwatwa on the East Rand. For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Astute Tech Foundation is the responsible party for the information collected through this site.

What we collect, and why

We only collect information when you actively give it to us through one of the forms on this site. Here is every one of them.

When you say "I can help" on the needs board

We collect your name, your chosen contact method and number or email, and any message you add. We use it for one purpose: to pass it to the specific organisation whose need you responded to, so they can contact you back.

When you post an offer

Your name and what you're offering are shown publicly on the offers board. Your contact details stay private — they are shared only with an organisation that takes up your offer, and only then.

When you claim someone's offer

We collect your name, contact details and any message, and pass them to the person who made that offer, so the two of you can arrange it.

When you list an organisation

We collect the organisation's details and a contact person. Once your listing is approved and goes live, the contact details you provide are shown publicly on your listing — that's the point, so families, donors and volunteers can reach you. Please only give details you're happy to have seen. Registration numbers you share are used to confirm your organisation and shown as verification.

When you read a help pathway (P01–P03)

We keep an anonymous count of how many times each pathway is viewed and how many people ask for help — no names, no numbers, nothing that identifies you. It simply tells us, and the funders who support this work, how much need exists at township level. This data cannot be traced back to any person.

Who your information is shared with

Two, at most, and never more:

That is the complete list. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We do not share it with advertisers or marketing companies. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies on this site.

A note on the families this is built for. The pathway pages exist to help young people and households — sometimes children caring for children. Because of that, those pages deliberately ask for nothing that could identify a child. They give information and next steps; they do not collect personal details. Any personal information on this site comes from adults offering help or listing an organisation.

How long we keep it

We keep the information you submit only as long as it's useful for connecting you — and no longer than we reasonably need it for the purpose you gave it. Anonymous pathway counts contain no personal information and may be kept indefinitely as aggregate demand data. You can ask us to delete your details sooner, at any time (see below).

How we keep it safe

Contact details are stored in a secured database and are never exposed publicly except where a listing chooses to show them. The forms that collect your details write them straight to protected storage; the public pages can only ever read the non-private parts. We take reasonable technical measures to protect against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

To do any of these, contact us using the details below and we'll act on it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za if you believe we've handled your information unlawfully.

Contact us

For anything about your privacy or the information we hold, email privacy@astutetech.org, or reach Astute Tech Foundation through the contact details on astutetech.org.

Changes to this notice

If we change how the site handles information, we'll update this page and the date below. Because Phase 2 of this platform — consented referral and case tracking with registered social workers — will collect more sensitive information, it will come with its own, stronger consent process. Until it's built, none of that data is collected. You can read exactly where that line sits on the roadmap.
